ModeShift

Sunday October 11th: 1:00PM - 3:00PM
Ticket Price: Free; registration required.

In keeping with the "Shift" theme of this year's DesignPhiladelphia festival, PlanPhilly, Drexel's ExCITe Center, and Code for Philly are hosting an event called Mode Shift focusing on the impending power shift in city government and a look back at the last eight years of shifting policy priorities on built in Philadelphia.

PlanPhilly editor Ashley Hahn will moderate a conversation between highly-engaged members of Philly's built environment community:

Rina Cutler (Senior Director of Major Stations, Planning & Development at Amtrak, formerly Deputy Mayor for Transportation & Utilities at the City of Philadelphia)

Greg Pastore (Zoning Board appointee, previously served on the Zoning Code Commission and led Bella Vista Town Watch)

Christine Knapp (Director of Strategic Partnerships at Philadelphia Water Department)

Some questions we'll explore include: How successful is Philadelphia at providing affordable, frequent, and reliable freedom of movement to all Philadelphians? How will our design choices around land use, development, and transportation from the past eight years feed back into issues like jobs access, housing affordability, and public health over the next eight? And what are some ideas in policy and technology the next administration should be considering, that could reshape our city even more in the years to come?

The Mode Shift event will be a great opportunity to debrief with Philadelphia’s design community about what we learned during the Nutter administration, what we know about the incoming class of elected officials’ views on planning and design from the 2015 campaign cycle, and what we might expect out of City Hall in the next term.

The Phillytranspo_art visualization will put the transportation piece of the city’s ongoing transformation into perspective, highlighting just how robust the non-car transportation network is in Philadelphia, and inviting a conversation.

Please RSVP as space is limited.
