Play Space | Art of Active Play - Healthy Play Panel
Join us to talk about play: its impact on childhood learning and health, and its surprising role in creating a great city. Hear from experts in public health, education, and design. Try out three new DIY play pieces designed and built by Philly youth with Public Workshop too!
The panel is part of Art of Active Play, a program to spark public dialogue about physical activity and its impact on child health and to transform underutilized spaces and unexpected places into opportunities for play. Art of Active Play began in August 2015 with three community design-build projects. Public Workshop engaged youth, design professionals, artists, and community members in creating low-cost play pieces that invite children, particularly girls, to be physically active. These play pieces will be re-installed at Smith Memorial Playground during DesignPhiladelphia before moving to permanent locations in Philadelphia neighborhoods.
Art of Active Play is a program of Play Space, a design initiative of the Community Design Collaborative and the Delaware Valley Association for the Education of Young Children (DVAEYC) to explore the unexpected ways that innovative play space helps both children and communities grow. Art of
Active Play is a joint effort of the Community Design Collaborative, DVAEYC, Philadelphia Department of Public Health/Get Healthy Philly, Public Workshop, Smith Memorial Playground, and People’s Emergency Center, and received support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
