Design and the Stuff of Everyday Life: Ilse Crawford

By Tiffany Mercer-Robbins on Sep 17, 2018

WHEN: October 10, 2018 / 5:00–6:30pm

WHERE: Lightbox Film Center, International House Philadelphia, 3701 Chestnut St., Philadelphia

WHAT: World-renowned furniture and interior designer Ilse Crawford describes her practice as “creating environments where humans feel comfortable; public spaces that make people feel at home; and homes that are habitable and make sense for the people who live in them.” In this talk for the Wolf Humanities Center’s 2018-19 Forum on “Stuff,” the founder of StudioIlse will explain why interiors—and the stuff that fills them—matter, how our imagined order and values are embedded in the material world we make, and how meaningful this can be in the wake of the digital. Program presented in association with the 2018 DesignPhiladelphia Festival.

HOW: Event is free and open to the public. For more information and to pre-register: https://wolfhumanities.upenn.edu/events/ilse-crawford

ABOUT THE WOLF HUMANITIES CENTER
The Wolf Humanities Center is the University of Pennsylvania’s main hub for interdisciplinary humanities research and public programming. Our goals are to demonstrate how vital the humanities are to the life of the mind and the health of society, and how fundamentally connected they are with many areas of urgent inquiry in medicine, law, business, and the sciences. The humanities as we define them are broad and inclusive, and we take pride at the Wolf Humanities Center in fostering a lively diversity of perspectives, approaches, and constituencies.
