Have you seen Mural Arts new Brand? In the spirit of Mural Arts, the new brand invites the public to participate in its design. On Thursday, October 13th, you can put your creative mark on Mural Arts’ new brand. Come out for an evening of discussion and hands-on art-making projects, to be featured in a month-long campaign across the city.

We asked the designers of the new brand at J2 Design to give us some background on the design process behind Mural Arts’ new graphic identity. Here’s what they had to say…

Branding is not just designing a logo and slapping it on a tote bag (surprise!). Strong and thoughtful branding...

  • Defines how people feel about the organization and the services and products offered.

  • Helps people to make choices on how to spend their time in money in a crowded market place

  • Communicates the quality of the service.

  • Reassures audiences that they have made the right choice.

  • Encourages people to identify personally with the brand culture and values.

For organizations like Mural Arts, all of the above came into play when undergoing their rebrand with the addition of 30+ historic years as one of the leading nonprofits in the city. On October 13th, we’ll discover what it took to make it happen.

  1. See behind the scenes
What started as a J2designed brochure and appeal in Fall 2013 morphed into the award-winning citywide exhibition Open Source during Mural Arts Month in 2015 and finally a full brand with messaging, logo design, and collateral starting in 2015. Hear the history of the project, the ups and downs, and lessons learned to make the brand a success.

  2. Art Ignites Change
Mural Arts doesn’t just paint murals, they move the city forward through the work of art. For over 30 years, Mural Arts has united artists and communities through a collaborative and equitable process, creating nearly 4,000 artworks that have transformed public spaces and individual lives. Mural Arts aims to empower people, stimulate dialogue, and build bridges to understanding with projects that attract artists from Philadelphia and around the world, and programs that focus on youth education, restorative justice, mental health and wellness, and public art and its preservation. Learn how Mural Arts ignites change throughout the entire region.

  4. Leave Your Mark
We can’t tell you all the details yet, but the brand requires your help. Create the finishing touches with us.

  5. Everyone loves good food
